Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. As part of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture aims to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points on the body with sterile, hair-thin disposable needles. The purpose of the needles is to restore the balance and smooth flow of “Qi” (Chi-energy) within the body. In doing this, it gently guides the body back to homeostasis, and puts the mind into a relaxed state where healing and repair can occur.

Acupuncture has been shown in research to have measurable physiological effects, including (but not limited to):

  • Increasing the release of endorphins which are the body’s natural pain-killers and mood boosters.
  • Increases in white blood cell counts(beneficial for treating people with weakened immune systems, chronic infections, seasonal maintenance to prevent colds/flu, prior to traveling etc.
  • Boosts levels of serotonin- a neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of well-being and happiness, and therefore helpful for treatment of depression, anxiety, addiction, and chronic pain or insomnia.
  • Increases circulation of RBC’S, WBC’S , oxygen, and co-enzymes that travel in the blood therefore improving local nourishment of tissues and helpful in repairing damage and injured tissues, muscles, ligaments, and joints.
